The Therapist

My name is Nguyễn Hải Nhi, and I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist practicing in the state of Texas. I’m a second-generation Vietnamese-American and a proud native Texan. In Vietnamese culture, the family name comes first, followed by the middle and given names. Learning to love and embrace my name has been a personal journey—one that reflects my heritage, identity, and growth. I would be honored to learn what your name means to you.

I believe therapy is about finding the right fit. So here’s a bit about me: I’m a child of immigrants. I’m also a wife, a mother, and someone who has experienced the deep loss of a parent to cancer. This is not my first career, and my path to becoming a therapist has been shaped by both personal and professional transitions.

I share this not to compare stories, but to let you know that I come to this work as a fellow human—someone who knows what it’s like to seek meaning, connection, and healing. I can’t promise change, but I can promise to show up with honesty, compassion, and presence.

Outside the therapy room, I find joy in discovering new coffee shops, savoring milk tea, organizing cozy spaces, perfecting my hot pot recipe, belting out karaoke, and losing myself in good music.

The Approach

Therapy, to me, is a collaborative process. Each person brings a unique story, and I believe you are the expert of your own experience. My role as a therapist involves three essential parts:

First, I listen. I aim to enter your world with care—to witness your pain, discomfort, or uncertainty without judgment. This is the foundation of trust and understanding.

Second, I empathize. I strive to create a space filled with warmth and respectful curiosity, where you feel safe to share your story. As we build this relationship, I attune to your level of self-awareness, your emotional capacity (or “window of tolerance”), and the ways your nervous system responds to stress and connection.

Third, I integrate clinical insight. Drawing from attachment theory and brain science, I support you in exploring how your experiences—both painful and empowering—are shaped by your relationships, community, and cultural identity. Together, we can examine how those influences have impacted your sense of self and belonging.

My hope is that, through our work together, you can begin to reimagine what safety, connection, and self-understanding can feel like—both within yourself and in the world around you.

The People I Serve

I provide therapy for adults, couples, and families navigating a wide range of life experiences. My work is grounded in cultural humility, inclusivity, and respect for each person’s unique background.

I especially enjoy working with:

  • Students and professionals managing stress, identity exploration, and life pressures

  • Couples at all stages of a relationship—from dating and premarital to long-term partnerships

  • New mothers and parents adjusting to shifting roles and identities

  • Individuals in transition, whether that’s career change, relocation, relationship shifts, or other life milestones

  • Grieving individuals processing loss in its many forms

  • Clients exploring identity, including those navigating cultural, intergenerational, or family-of-origin challenges

I am LGBTQIA+ affirming, sex-positive, and committed to providing a safe, inclusive space for all.

If you're seeking support through a period of change, loss, or growth, I’d be honored to walk alongside you.
